I recieved this book through Netgalley, for a sincere review, I used to read alot from there, but I found it too much , so gave it a rest, now I am only going to accept ones that I really want to read, this one was offered and I jumped at the chance, I have been looking for a juicy novel to sink my teeth into.
So, here it is –
I sat at my laptop for ages, staring at this empty post slot, I loved this book, but I have no idea how to start talkign about it, as my brain just wants to blurt out stuff and that would spoil it for you, and my friends that was be a crying shame, author has crafted such a full and well rounded plot, you really need to experience it for yourselves.
This book actually resurected myself from a screeching dry spell, every book I seemes to pick up, I just couldn’t settle with, so thank you J.D.Barker for hounding it away, all be it with some gore.
Mind you, I was never adversed to a bit of gore and, reading this you cannot be, Its not bad by any means, I have read far worse, but, you need to expect some ‘eww’ moments, for want of a better expression.
This book was all sorts of wrongs yet, it was so right, I loved the way the author had me in the palm of his hand, the way he drip feeds the reader, with plot and sub plot and sends you down this path of ‘I know what is going to happen, I’ve this all fugured out’ to WTF – I mean what the buzz- I didn’t see that coming!
The essence of this novel is centered around a serial killer called ‘The Fourth Monkey‘ or 4MK for short in the windy city of Chicago, USA they have been terrorised by this cruel deviant for years and Detective Sam Porter has been on the chase or chase I should say.
We are thrown into the action from the start, so buckle up, and enjoy the rollercoaster that is this book. What I really like in books is when you are treated to various charecters having thier own chapters, instead of straight text, flipping here there and everywhere.
We have the here and now, but are also treated …well… let into the personal space/mind that is the killers diary and his seriously fucked up childhood, I have to admit they were some of my favourite chapters, I am not sure what that says about me, but you could see why ‘he’ turned out the way he did. All I will say is that his parents seemed outwardly prim and proper, teaching thier child manners….but oh boy… when the doors were closed……
Never judge a book by its cover, so never underestimate your quiet neighbours …know what I’m saying!
I realise , that this post is getting a tad long and I have not even scratched the surface, so I bow to the glory that is Goodreads to summize for me, as I am bollocks at it …sigh
As the lead investigator on the 4MK task force, Detective Sam Porter knows even in death, the killer is far from finished. When he discovers a personal diary in the jacket pocket of the body, Porter finds himself caught up in the mind of a psychopath, unraveling a twisted history in hopes of finding one last girl, all while struggling with personal demons of his own.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me get my hands on this, t’was a great read and I for sure will read something from this author again; in fact I have one in my Amazon basket as we speak.
Hope this inspired you to pick this up in July when it comes out .
Thanks for bumbling by and hope to see you soon!
